Taxco

Taxco is known for its picturesque white washed houses perched high above the valley, its narrow, steep winding cobblestone streets, and its abundance of silver shops and markets. We took the bus there on Sunday; it's only about an hour and half from Cuernavaca. Most people go there to browse and shop in the many one man silver workshops and factories which line the streets. Supposedly Taxco has the best bargains on silver, and you can find really interesting designs there. There's not just silver jewelry, though; there's silverware, plates, tea sets, containers, mirrors, money clips, book markers, wine goblets, decanters, artwork...you name it...it's all out of silver and it's waiting to be purchased. I walked away empty handed, believe it or not. Our main reason for visiting the town was to stroll around and take in the atmosphere. Here's a sample of what we saw.

Interesting wall behind me...it's not graffiti - it's inlaid stone...

View of the main plaza (Plaza Borda)...

Santa Prisca & San Sebastian Church...one of Mexico's most impressive baroque churches...

Typical home/restaurant...

But yes, there's graffiti too...

These VW buses are collectivos and take passengers all around the town for
about 50 cents a ride...

Another view of that wall...

The streets and walkways are very steep here...
