After leaving behind the heavenly bright blue skies we were fortunate to have on our last two days in Beijing, we moved on to Xian, known as the eternal city. There we were unfortunately greeted by a gray, smoggy canopy. I've never seen so much construction going on in one place either. It's a rapidly expanding city with a diverse industrial base. Most people, however, come to Xian to visit those intriguing little terra cotta warriors which were discovered by farmers in 1974. There are many other sights of interest, though, and I think Xian could be a wonderful place for further exploration, especially if the atmospheric conditions were just right.
